When a Muslim dies in Oregon
You do not have to do this alone, or all at once. Your masjid has done this many times. Follow the steps in order, and open each one when you reach it.
As soon as you can, call your masjid’s funeral committee.They will arrange the washing, the shroud, the prayer and the burial, and tell you which funeral home to use.
Find a number- Death certificate filing
- The funeral service practitioner who first takes custody of the body submits the report of death to the county registrar or the state Center for Health Statistics within five calendar days after the death and before final disposition. Ask the funeral home to confirm when it has been submitted. ORS 432.133
- Ordering death certificates
- Certified death certificates come from Oregon Vital Records (Center for Health Statistics); the state office has records from 1903 on. Ask the funeral home how many certified copies you are likely to need before you order. Where to Write for Vital Records: Oregon
- Small estates
- Oregon allows a simple estate affidavit when the estate has no more than $75,000 of personal property and $200,000 of real property, and the affidavit cannot be filed until 30 days after the death. Ask the circuit court clerk in the county where the person lived for the forms. ORS 114.510, 114.515

Wash and shroud the body
