General guidance, not advice

Life Is Temporary gives general guidance on Islamic funeral practice and inheritance for families in the United States. It is not a fatwa, legal advice, tax advice or a will. Laws on burial, autopsy, probate and estates differ by state. Before you act, confirm religious questions with a qualified scholar and legal questions with an attorney licensed in your state.

The inheritance calculator

The calculator applies the majority Sunni rules, with a Ḥanafī option where the schools differ, for spouses, children, son’s children, parents, grandparents, and full, paternal and maternal siblings, as cited on the sources page. It does not cover every relative or every school of law, and it does not decide what the law of your state will do with an estate that has no valid will.

The directory

Listings are taken from public pages and dated. Services, phone numbers and fees change; call to confirm before you rely on any listing. A listing is not an endorsement.

Your wishes page

The wishes page is a record of your wishes for your family. It is not a legal document. An estate attorney can turn it into a will that is valid in your state.
